Dr. Tonya Rhodes is the 2023-2024 Bell Elementary Teacher of the Year!

Tonya has worked on Team Tulsa since 1995 and joined the Bell team this school year teaching 5th grade math and science.

"I started in TPS as a math tutor through AmeriCorps, then as a 5th grade teacher assistant and paraprofessional for 3rd-5th. I have had the pleasure of teaching high school and junior high as well. I have enjoyed every phase of my career with Tulsa Public Schools. So far I have enjoyed junior high the most; however, my current assignment in 5th grade is quickly catching up. I love teaching mathematics because I enjoy helping students find their inner confidence in their abilities and helping them change their mindset set towards life."

Tonya said she chooses to bring joy to her classroom every day.

"I want to be the kind of teacher that I had growing up: supportive, consistent, persistent and high quality. No act of kindness or push for excellence is in vain. It is my highest pleasure to serve my community as a teacher and hopefully be a light for my students and peers in these stressful times."

Outside of work, she is passionate about her church family and serving her community.
